Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Ritu Bahal and I am the Finance & Marketing Director of Rongai Workshop & Transport Ltd, a transport company that has been in business for over 65 years with our head office in Rongai and a branch office in Mombasa. We run about 100 articulated trucks, servicing a wide variety of Clientele, carrying their Imports and Exports as well as moving many different commodities throughout Kenya.
Rongai first signed up to be appraised by the Top 100 Club in 2011 and have since entered in subsequent years and will enter again this year . Whether you are a relatively new business or long established like ourselves, it is often difficult to find a worthy and relevant yardstick to measure yourself against. We all develop our own internal matrix, management systems and targets especially in the financial aspect of our business, but it is critical to find a way to answer the question “How do we measure up with other businesses” The Top 100 Club provides a very good way to just exactly do this. Their requested financial ratios pinpoint the defining aspects of your business, and even by their focus on such ratios, it draws your own attention to their importance. Business organizations need to be dynamic and always need to keep ahead of their game. TOP 100 definitely keeps you on your toes to ensure you keep abreast with the fast changing business and economic climate in the East African region and beyond.
Transport is a very difficult industry to be in…the TOP 100 status, has helped us grow our business in the last three years and opened doors for us that were previously inaccessible, thanks mainly, due to the networking and interactive opportunities availed , during the various sessions, special Forums and presentations organised by the TOP 100 Club on a regular basis for the members, which are most useful to any growing or established business.
For Rongai, being in the TOP 100, has been a big plus as we have achieved recognition and publicity in the wider markets which previously were not on our horizon, having been tucked away in our cocoon in the outskirts of Nakuru for many years. Apart from developing trust and confidence from clients and gaining respect from business partners, the TOP 100 status has put us in a different category as they all know that they are dealing with the right Company . It is a recognisable standard when no more needs to be said.
We have hugely enjoyed our participation in the Top 100 ‘league’ for the last 3 years and are honoured to be a part of the TOP 100 family, having achieved 28th position last year amongst a very fine line up of other TOP 100 Mid Sized companies in the Country. For us TOP 100 is a brand and we are their brand ambassadors. We hope we have done them proud, by being an embodiment of the values and principles that a TOP 100 Company should represent.
We would strongly urge all of you here to take part in this year’s TOP 100 SME Survey. It is a very worthwhile and an interesting exercise and I would take this opportunity to thank Robert and his team and all the sponsoring companies and personnel who have set up and run the Top 100 Club, for all their effort and input over the three years, and now four that we have participated. Asante sana and wish you all a pleasant evening xxx
